Happy Barker FAQ's

1. "I thought that dogs were carnivores, but your snacks are vegan. Aren't dogs supposed to eat meat?"
From: Tom, Tillamook, OR

Great question, Tom. Actually, dogs are true omnivores, which means that they benefit from a balanced diet that includes plant-based nutrients in addition to protein. Nutritional balance comes from the right amounts (and proportions) of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. A safe and healthy protein source can in fact be achieved by combining the right organic vegan ingredients, and in no way, requires the use of animal meat. In addition, meat (including beef, chicken, turkey, pork and fish) falls into the category of top allergens found in domesticated dogs.

Unfortunately, pet food manufacturing processes have also been a contributor to food-related health issues in dogs. We suggest that you steer clear of pet foods that list the following ingredients in categorical terms like "Meat meals and meat by-products," as well as "Fish meals and fish by-products."
